Conagra Announces 91 New Jobs Through A $31 Million Expansion

The Lee County Conagra Brands facility announced today that they are expanding their facilities, investing $31,900,000 and adding approximately 91 jobs. The Lee County facility currently employs approximately 450 individuals.

 To help facilitate this expansion and creation of jobs, the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) board has awarded Conagra $1.2 million over five years as part of the High Quality Jobs tax credit program. In order to qualify for this program, the jobs must pay a minimum of $17.09 per hour at the beginning of the project and at least $20.51 once the project is completed.

Mount Pleasant Awarded Employer Innovation Fund

Mount Pleasant Chamber Alliance was awarded $10,000 to meet identified employer needs in the area, this project will fund the purchase a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine to be placed in the Mt. Pleasant High School as well as cover the cost of training instructors. The school district and the local business community have partnered together to teach students and parents about the advanced technology involved in manufacturing jobs within their community. Twelve local manufacturers will serve as project advisors and teach 176 students how to use the CNC machine in the first semester.

Des Moines and Lee Counties Pursuing ACT Work Ready Community Certification

Lee County and Des Moines County have joined forces to become ACT Work Ready Communities. Becoming a Certified Community through ACT allows us to quantify and up-skill our workforce with the National Career Readiness Certification. Both counties completed the ACT Work Ready Community training boot camp and successfully launched the initiative.

Southeastern Community College Updates new Health and Science Labs

Southeastern Community College held an open house for their new Health and Science labs on their Keokuk Campus Monday, September 9th..  

The $800,000 makeover of Emeritus Hall and Bowles Hall includes updated science labs and patient simulation lab, and new classroom amenities. Attendees will also notice that Bowles Hall got a facelift of sorts. A service entrance was replaced with green space and parts of the exterior now feature a red metal cladding with a prominent SCC.
